MyHrlyRt.art was created by Sherri Brueggemann, founder of 100%, LLC, also known as 100% for Art. Sherri is a retired public art administrator with deep experience in art production, project management, and teaching the business of art. She has been a longtime advocate for helping artists better understand the business realities of creative work.
The original spreadsheet began around 2010 while teaching in the Arts Management Program at the University of New Mexico. Students studying the creative economy repeatedly wanted to know:

“How much can I make per hour as an artist?”

Over time, that question slowly transformed into a more important one:

“How much do I need to make per hour in order to sustain my life and creative practice?”

That shift in thinking became the foundation of the worksheet. As the spreadsheet evolved, it was further refined through years of working with artists in public art, commissions, fabrication, exhibitions, handmade products, and creative entrepreneurship. Again and again, artists struggled with the same challenge: understanding what to place in the mysterious “Artist Fee” line item within project budgets.

The worksheet was developed to help answer that question with greater confidence and transparency.

Today, MyHrlyRt.art continues to grow as both a practical budgeting tool and a broader effort to help artists think differently about value, labor, sustainability, taxes, overhead, savings, and creative survival. The goal is not simply to help artists charge more, but to help them make decisions based on clearer information and a fuller understanding of what it actually costs to sustain a creative life.

Because artists do many kinds of work across many different mediums, the worksheet has expanded over time to support a range of approaches — from one-of-a-kind artworks and public commissions to handmade production work, writing, presentations, and licensing concepts.

At its heart, MyHrlyRt.art is about helping artists move from pricing by instinct to pricing with intention.
